Mahler’s “Titan” Symphony will  feature horn soloist David Jolley.

The late Romantic composer Gustav Mahler strove to embrace the entire world of human emotion in his symphonies.  Experience the tragedy and ultimate triumph in Mahler’s first symphonic essay, as well as music by Mahler contemporary Richard Strauss and early Romantic innovator Robert Schumann.

Maestro Charles Jones Evans states: “The symphonies of Gustav Mahler represent the pinnacle of Romantic period grandeur and extremes of emotion.  Mahler viewed his works as musical depictions of the entire world of human experience. For the explorer at heart, bring a friend and join us for a unique, behind-the-scenes tour of unrestored areas of the Battleship. The four-hour tour consists of small groups with guides. Guests explore the bow (officers’ country and boatswain locker), third deck (Radio II, brig, after gyro, storage rooms, ammunition handling, Engineer’s office, torpedo area), Engine room #1, the refrigerator compartments, and climb inside the fire control tower to the top of the ship. The Azalea Coast Radio Club will be in Radio II to explain their work on the ship’s radio transmitters.

The tour is limited to ages 12 and older and limited to 40 participants per time slot. It is not appropriate for those who have difficulty climbing narrow ladders or over knee-high hatches. Wear warm, comfortable, washable clothing, sturdy, rubber-soled shoes and bring a camera!

Choose between a morning (8:30 – 12:30) or afternoon (1:30 – 5:30) tour. Registration and payment are due by Thursday, January 12th. Call 910-251-5797 for reservations.

From Santa to singing Elvis look-alikes, boats large and small parade down our Waterway. Find a spot to watch or decorate a boat to participate.

From Little River to North Myrtle Beach, the Christmas holiday is kicked off with the Intracoastal Christmas Regatta the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It begins at 5 pm and concludes at 7 pm at the Dock Holiday Marina.

Toys are collected to help local children, and pet items are collected for the Humane Society.
