It’s another perfect celebration of life along the Carolina coast. Calabash will present its first Seafood Festival and Car Show Saturday November 16. It’s all day, from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. at Hwy 179 and Thomasboro Road.  This little fishing village is the closest North Carolina neighbor to Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach,  South Carolina.

The Loris Bog Off is underway all week with the biggest excitement set for Saturday, Oct. 17. The chicken bog cooking competition will be underway. Plenty of other food vendors will deliver tasty festival foods. Arts and crafts will be showcased to delight all browsers and shoppers. Live music, activities for children and plenty of fun await. It’s an exciting fall festival for enjoying one of our favorite small towns, just minutes away from the busy Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach area. For details and directions contact the Loris Chamber of Commerce.  Loris is also home of WLSC Radio.  You can listen to them live at www.wlscradio.com.  They are a big part of the Loris community.  Come on out this weekend!

LOCAL RECORDING ARTISTS “ON THESE AIRWAVES” RELEASE DEBUT CD

On These Airwaves Band from Myrtle Beach

On These Airwaves Band from Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC:  The Myrtle Beach music scene receives another boost as locally based On These Airwaves release their first studio recording “Sunset Provisions on Saturday, July 11, with a free concert on the main stage at Broadway at the Beach’s Celebrity Square.   Tom Yoder, guitar legend, recording artist and former local resident, will open for On These Airwaves, taking the stage at 8:00 p.m.

Band founder Eric Long, calls the project, “A realization of the entire band’s dream to put together a ‘thinking man’s album’.  All of us are long-time musicians, playing for the love of playing, but also wanting to ‘scratch the recording itch’.  We want to be at the vanguard of promoting independent artists along the coast of South Carolina.  Top quality talent, production, technology and opportunities are right here in our own back yard”.

The band’s website http://ontheseairwaves.com describes their signature sound as, “a musical brew consisting of vintage spices – Beatles and Byrds; classic herbs – Floyd and REM; and modern garnish – Radiohead and Elbow.  Lush harmonies mask a deeper, sometimes introspective musical theme.  OTA’s “Sunset Provisions” is a record of life.  From the joy and fear of childhood to the fear and joy of being an adult,”

“The bands website is to the right under Myrtle Beach.  I believe these guys have got it!!!!”  I hope to make it to the concert………

Recently there was an introduction on tv that I can’t remember where it was…..  but it was about the wild life park here in Myrtle Beach.  WOW, I didn’t know.   Well, I haven’t seen it yet; but, I plan to take my granddaughter there this week.  I’ve put the link to the right!

Myrtle Beach Safari! Myrtle Beach Safari!

I can remember when I moved to Myrtle Beach from Columbia in 1972; and, shortly, thereafter, one of my friends started to work at WKZQ FM radio.  FM radio station was a new thing.  But definitely better than an AM station.  Well, look what’s happened…… QRockRadio, the clock has turned back.  If you can remember the 70s, 80s in Myrtle Beach, you’ll remember this group of guys…. http://qrockradio.com/

I’ve decided to add this to my Myrtle Beach links.  So check in anytime to listen and to see what’s happening in Myrtle Beach BabyBoomer World!

My friend later hired me to work for their AM station WTGR “Tiger” radio.  My friend now is the publisher for “Sassy” Magazine and many other local publications.
